review

Alaya Johnson graduated in East Asian languages and culture at Columbia University. After long stays in Japan, she now works in New York and has a big weakness for exotic food and fantastic but also of historical literature. With Moonshine - city of darkness she presents her first novel, published in German.

>> Aileen seemed to have fainted, although she giggled now and still on the counter. I leaned forward and rested my head on Amir's pretty impressive from shoulder, while I was fishing in his pocket. \u0026lt;\u0026lt;

Zephyr Hollis uses her strengths for the most vulnerable. But that was not always so. Formerly persecuted and chased her vampires, today they tried to help where they can. And to understand. As was bitten one night a little boy, Zephyr saves him and soon not only the jinn Amir at the neck but a new, unwelcome her job. It should help a criminal to take, if need be bring it to the track. But the Zephyr has renounced violence. An oath, the Amir may cost his life ...

"Sensual and exciting. Mysterious and strange. " Alaya Johnson's debut so many qualities attributed to that can not deny it. For in fact offers Moonshine - city of darkness follow a reading experience of a special kind, no doubt, some sensual descriptions and no less interesting to be transported into the world of the author to please their taste for exotic presentations understands. Alaya Johnson skillfully portrays the activities of its protagonist at the beginning like a pure ray of sunlight a swathe through the Darkness draws. She is a teacher. It defends the poor and weak. It supplies vampires with blood and she takes part in various charity events. Original acts here the concept of the different layers of New York to work out and place the vampire in the sediment of this exotic barrel. They are shunned, exploited and - when turned too soon - brought down. Things, the Zephyr Hollis (formerly himself a Defender) never intend to do it again. One project, which soon gets out by Amir at risk. An inscrutable man searching for help and an ally against the most powerful drug lord in the city.

Zephyr Amir and harmony well from the beginning with each other. Their love affair is acting slowly and quietly told, but also touching and very soon becomes clear that Amir's life is in hands Zephyrs. Alaya Johnson said this development and also the entire novel from the personal perspective of its protagonist and quite credible case can be put off at any time. She describes to detail New York. Describes cabs, old streets and dark dives as well thought out, as the policy pursued, the vampires to suppress possible with a heavy hand. But not only crazed bloodsuckers like Turn Boys or heavy labor, such as the friendly Giuseppe shape this novel. Amir as jinn know well that certain something to offer and has an oriental flavor which is understood to seduce many a woman's heart. Yet the love story remains for the time being too slow and is apparently only intensified in the succeeding volumes. city of darkness appears mainly on the various introductions of various details of profound focus. All well and good, no question. But feminine yet to women's rights and a little bit at certain points. Thickness friendships and extravagant research shape the course of this novel, which unfortunately is always a bit lengthy. Too bad. The future will show what Alaya Johnson from this foundation can still carve. Potential for something extraordinary is available without any doubt, but it fails because of the mediocrity of the action that does not necessarily know how to captivate.

Conclusion

With Moonshine - city of darkness Alaya Johnson presents a novel that can read well and back to the interesting approaches to the fore understand. Profound and substantial, but still provided with lengths, the author tells about the search of a woman who counts himself to the class of do-gooders. Colorful, original, yet only limited captivating for readers which is a classic entertaining dark fantasy novel expected.
