Joachim Masannek (02/28/2011) interview with Joachim Masannek
Literatopia: Hi Joachim! Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions. But please introduce yourself first of all to all readers. Who are you and what you write?
Joachim Masannek: know my name you already, and I write books and screenplays. The books are mostly read by children. But I do not think that there are children's books. For me there is no difference between stories for adults and stories for children. Besides, the children's specific issues, such as love, sex and violence, yet not so interested. What the adults but they do not necessarily have to have something ahead.
Literatopia: In November 2010 came the launch of your new children's book series "Honky Tonk Pirates" . How did you get the idea, you think up pirate adventure? And you like us a little about the content of tell "The Promised Land "?
Joachim Masannek: pirate films I've always liked, but they were turned over decades are no longer home.
as "Pirates of the Caribbean" was released, I was thrilled that it finally a new pirate movie was, and Captain Jack Sparrow I was so excited that I had staged Gonzo Gonzales Wilde Kerle two as his biggest fan. Then we have the Wild Things Are actors often wondered if we could make a pirate movie Wild Things, and if the guys would not be so quickly grown up and we had made a sixth part, it might have given such a film. Almost two years ago then the producer Thomas Peter Friedl came to me and asked me if I wanted to make a pirate movie. Since I have not said no, of course, and history has fallen cbj from Random House so much that they wanted to move a series of books.
In the Promised Land is about a boy who meets all the requirements to be a pirate. He lives in the wrong place at the wrong time and he has no cool name. But the irrepressible desire as a pirate, he has to live in freedom and he manages to make his dream come true.
Literatopia: What priorities and values you want to teach your young readers? Do you have some issues to the fore?
Joachim Masannek: Yes. First, it's all about fear. Often one thinks that it is the only person who fears something has one and does not dare to talk about it. One is ashamed, fear eats into itself and is doing as if it were not. In reality, however, often do not trust you then to do things you would like to do. And if you live for as long, you will end up even, therefore, often cowardly. But all people are scared and the most important is that you admit to himself and others that fear. Then you can overcome them.
Another issue is responsibility. There is not: oh, I've accidentally done if you this happens in football, the other still gets a free-kick, even if you wanted to foul him. You did it. If one has responsibilities. If you stand for the consequences one that calls for their own actions, and that makes a free and mature. In my stories there is always a question of how to grow up. Because that's the desire of every child ...
Literatopia: In April 2011 will appear the third volume " Back in hell" for cbj. The blurb says that it ends up in friends back Berlin. Can you tell us more? Joachim Masannek: The third part deals with the ring of the widow of Chen, the wearer invincible and thus makes the best pirate in the world. But the best, only one be. So you can imagine how hard it is Honky Tonk Hannah, Will and hellhound Blind Black Soul whistle, the three largest derWelt Pirates fall to agree on who of them being the best and who can wear the ring. And of course there are dark forces who want to have the ring itself, to destroy the pirates. These dark forces are from Berlin. Oh, and finally, the big secret is out where Hannah is who she really is and has what hell they made a pact. Like This Will not secret at all. I can tell you.
Literatopia: become famous you are under including through the thirteen volumes of "Wild Things". Will you about the "Honky Tonk Pirates" tell as much detail?
Joachim Masannek: I currently have planned first six volumes. But the letter makes just such fun that it could also be more.
Literatopia: Keywords 3D film: To what extent are you involved as an author in the production? Can you say in the choice of the actors? And which actors embody in your eyes, Hannah and Will? Joachim Masannek: I am not just an author but also a director. And as I've done with the Wild Things Are film director, I do this at the Honky Tonk Pirates too. The actors I look so out of here, along with producer.
Literatopia: was launched in autumn 2010 the casting. Is it from your site to report something? Maybe even a non-binding, when "Honky Tonk Pirates" will be shown in German cinemas? Joachim Masannek: No. This can not tell with such a film is expensive. The film cost 15 million euros or more, and with such a sum can never tell when he is fully funded.
General
Literatopia: What would you tell interested readers about the wild football guys do not yet familiar with this series? Is there something specific in your eyes, that these books and their film to be what they are? Joachim Masannek: The Savages has existed in reality. None of the figures and invented many of the adventures really happened. My sons Marlon and Leon, who play in the movies Max and Mark, have the name, the jerseys and logo for their team came up and I had the luck and the honor for six years may be their coach.
Literatopia: What characteristics in your eyes from a children's and youth book? Do you feel certain things to be absolutely unsuitable or are you of the opinion that the package simply decide on what topics you can expect really? Joachim Masannek: I've already said it for me there is no difference between children and adult books. I always tell my stories as if I tell it to adults. I take the kids as seriously as I do an adult would take seriously. Of course there are issues and stories that should be read only if one is larger, just as one can indeed do not yet six years old to drive. But in contrast to those topics of interest to license the younger children usually do not know. 10 year old boy who finds it as great to read over the history smooch?
Literatopia: servants you get inspired you to write some real events around you? Do some of your characters even models in real life? Or you tried to separate reality and fantasy strictly? Joachim Masannek: The Savages were it in reality. I've already said. And the model for Honky Tonk Hannah is like my friend Michelle. I have always inspired people who tell me to invent characters for my stories. I'm learning a lot here by my sons, Marlon and Leon.
Literatopia: Also this year you will be back to see different readings. Are you still excited enthusiasm for such opportunities to others for your book, or is it already routine? Do you remember a certain reading in particular? Joachim Masannek: No. I'm always afraid that the listeners do not like my story. I also need some more time to get a new book that I have just completed, to like. There are a lot of fond memories of readings. Since many children I would do wrong if I would emphasize one or the other. One thing I just want to tell. In my last book tour, a girl has for her class thanked me that I have come. Then she asked me later if I remember the letter, the parents have written to me years ago. They have a daughter who has leukemia and she took courage to defeat this disease, in which she told her that the red blood cells fight in their savage than the guys against the white, the invincible winner. Well, this girl had it and she would have been really healthy.
Literatopia: When did you used for the first time for spring? Even in early childhood or have you discovered the literature relatively late for you? Joachim Masannek: I wrote love poems and lyrics. It started with thirteen. The first script I wrote during my studies at the film school and my first book was Leon, slalom dribbling, Volume 1 of the Savages.
Literatopia: write where and when you like? Do you need a certain environment to get in the mood, or could break the world around you while you are deeply focused the keys to glow? Joachim Masannek: I write anywhere, then I really forget what happened to me. Unless I find it not one time. Then I need a rest. Otherwise, I like when people write about me, because writing is such a lonely business, that I could not otherwise endure so easy.
Literatopia: talent or craft? What do you think about writing and what one must do as a writer in your opinion especially if they are to attract the reader do? Joachim Masannek: letter is 90 percent of discipline and hard work. Many talents, most believe they have just happened to write as often as in the rapture and of itself. It is hard but we fitness training for a football player. The football game may even enjoy it when the book is finished, and I like the readers.
Literatopia: Have you literary role models? Is there an author / a writer, you've been particularly impressed you? And what are you looking forward particularly for pre-2011? Joachim Masannek: I liked the first Harry Potter books. I like Astrid Lindgren, Arnulf Zittelmann and Hans Otto Meisner. But as I write so much, I barely read themselves
Literatopia: What can we expect in the near and distant future from you? Have you something concrete in planning or you still waiting on a particular inspiration? Joachim Masannek: So the time I write a script for a movie I'll probably turn this summer. Then I write a new version of the screenplay for Honky Tonk Pirates. I'm writing the fourth novel in the Pirates series of books and very likely come next spring again out new Wild Things Are books. Yes, and then there's still my favorite project "Wild Night", where I continue to work again and again and with my friend and producer Michael Coldewey and I plan very much.
