book trailer for the latest reading group

this trailer, I think, incidentally, despite the very drawn to the melodramatic ramblings at the beginning, quite successful. Especially the background music to shine as white, with the epic tone perhaps a bit out of place. But I have to confirm the second volume soon enough. Or not. I'm looking forward to both, because I think it is with Suzanne Collins in each case once again entertaining and exciting. Marie together

blurb

Around the year 117 AD marched the Ninth Roman Legion in North Britain into the fog and was never seen again. Four thousand men disappeared without trace and with them their ensigns, the Roman eagle. Many years later the young centurion Marcus wants to find necessarily what became of his father, who then led the Legion. He breaks into the unknown - into the midst of the insurgent-dominated tribes wilderness ...

review

Rosemary Sutcliff addressed early and intensively with historical studies, the knowledge she dealt with in her novels. Their historical art books have been translated into many languages and won several awards. The Eagle of the Ninth Legion is her fourth novel, and only one of many, for they, through their achievements in youth literature was honored with the Order of the British Empire.

>> "You've brought up quite nicely in danger," said Marcus, "that you would not have done that." He was half angry, half ashamed that Esca had risked his life on the line to him to bring the wolf boy. At a stroke, seemed Esca completely closed. "I forgot that I have set the property of my master's at stake," he said with a harsh, cold tone. <<

years after the disappearance of the Ninth Legion two worlds collide with the purchase of a slave on another quiet way. For the young centurion Marcus - finds that acceptance, if any is the greatest feeling that Esca, his new body servant can expect from him - by a bad ending for him as a war cripple fight ended. Because this may well be thankful that Marcus has rescued him, but it reserves its part, a certain reserve. Nevertheless, the different men slowly and irrevocably friends. A friendship through their cultures seems almost impossible, and the Marcus decision is put to the test: He wants the Eagle of the Ninth Legion find. The eagle of his father. And it is only Esca behind the deadly for a Roman Areas of Hadrian's Wall accompany ...

The long history of Rome has already moved many inspiring people in its spell. No matter what medium it presents itself mysterious and still erkundenswert, whether as aspiring power or doomed. Rosemary Sutcliff seemed to share this passion with many interests and decorate their personal vision to do well. Because with The Eagle of the Ninth Legion she presented a story that retold the tragic career of the Ninth Legion eventually, though in a different, more careful retrospective art was what happened back then? And almost most important question: Where disappeared the eagle, the symbol of power and strength of the Legion? For Marcus, the protagonist, these questions are essential. As the son of the commander of the Ninth, whose father along with four thousand men without a trace vanished in the mists of history, he seeks to restore his family honor and to clarify for themselves the same way as all his male ancestors, he seeks in this case, as her family tradition required to fame in the Legion. But this dream is suddenly over, when the young, passionate man in the fight draws to lead his first command. Marcus is seriously injured and quickly clear: Never again, he can easily capable with his crippled leg his men to lead in a fight. What remains for him are pain and sorrow. Aquila and his uncle, who tries to get him soon to other thoughts. And so it happens that the former slave Esca met the centurion, born in freedom and forced to die the death of a gladiator, Marcus would not have to do at the last moment something (in the eyes of his uncle) completely foolish: such a man - who had had the freedom and thereby to it otherwise requested - to save their lives in order to buy it.

treading From this point on Rosemary Sutcliff very interesting, narrative way. With great feeling and a good portion Mischief they can enter Esca and Marcus, the paths of a complicated friendship. You learn to understand and although you can see Marcus as a wonderful, kind people, it's just Esca, who escapes the developing area. Ironically, he is too proud to deal with a Roman in this respect to give and soon we learn why, as a viewer is forced to understand all the hatred that these two men - lies - between two different worlds. Rosemary Sutcliff has made this point so much to correct. It is not clear, not directly. Does the flow development in the background and divides the existing Problems eventually fully behind the wall of Hadrian, the Marcus finally separated from everything familiar, looking for the eagle. The cultures are colliding here more as diverse as deadly. Marcus manages to survive only because of a lie, and before he really understands the months between the different open, rebellious tribes of Britain's view: Friendship knows no boundaries. The hearts are all the same, even if that fact can be ignored at certain times, it is still available. And Marcus has to ignore the end. It is wonderful and really worth reading as he finds it difficult to pursue its project on; finally hunted by men who had his friends can be. But not only respect, the two enemies should not owe, will be at Rosemary Sutcliff topic. She also tells of loyalty, unwavering dedication and a will to live that no one may take leave regardless of the circumstances. Historical details can complete the whole work, which would still detailed (yet understandable) may be richer and dialogue, and inspire the young adult reader and fan of these styles, however, completely or at least enjoy.

And now a few words about the current movie : Marcus and Esca with Channig Tatum Bell and Jamie occupied almost ideal. Both meet the expectations of the reader and enter the beginning of the film perfectly and (almost) true to the book until the middle of the novel. From that point, however, the script deviates quite gruesome, on action and trimmed the relationship between Marcus and Esca from. Centers, which would not in itself was bad, but (even in German synchronization) develop any real magic and convince it not completely. The main points that Rosemary Sutcliff knew how to develop absent here in so many points and so this film is indeed (despite not a few weaknesses) for die-hard fans of this era worth seeing, but the novel (even for those who liked the movie and both protagonists have entered into the heart) a must.

Oh, when I came to the eagles,
(Was not it only yesterday?)
I kissed a girl in Clusium,
Before I moved on.

(page 206)

Conclusion

The Eagle of the Ninth Legion is a wonderful historical book full of adventure and full of humanity. With Marcus as impressive, yet authentic gooder in this regard and make such serious issues, especially for young people to be nothing wrong. But so many adults, the simple, compelling story and its values will appreciate as much as to let Rosemary Sutcliffe (and sometimes to) alive narrative talent, there is such a story provides a wonderful and memorable way.

I hope you like the content of my blog and in other future! : O)

most pleasing ...

Nice slow ridiculous ...

... I find the already published advertisements for "Eragon 4 " . No real title, not a serious cover and a lot of hot words in the publishing notice. Is understandable, but I still wonder about the deeper meaning something short of exciting present. But there probably split opinions. To the fans who really literatopia.de daily over the last three volumes and about the future prospects debate are enough already known.

My current discoveries ...

... my full attention has secured the wonderful book cover by Catherine Banner with her novel "The Children of Malonia " . The second volume of a fantasy series in which it partly to the time travel goes. Something I usually suffer less, but in this case I am sincerely interested. Therefore on my wishlist also migrates like the first book the author "The Song of Malonia " :

A tyrant ruled the kingdom of Malonia, since Prince Ryan the rightful heir to the throne, was sent into exile. Until the young Maloni Leo North discovers a mysterious book that tells him where it's sly the prince: to a place called England, which is separated by Leos home through a magic door ... But is Prince Ryan his people can come to the rescue - even if he left for the woman does, he loves more than life?

I quote: TTT is an abbreviation for " Top Ten Tuesday " , a meme that originated in the English bloggers space, but has now been established from Alice in the land books for the German bloggers. review

Suzanne Collins began her career as a screenwriter for the American children's television and published years later, her debut novel and the series opener "Gregor and the Prophecy" , which became an international bestseller. With "The Tribute by Panem - Deadly Games " writer who lives in Connecticut, presented in August 2009, honored the first novel in the trilogy about Panem Katniss Everdeen and was soon with prestigious awards.

>> suddenly overwhelmed me to think Peeta might already be lost, bled to death, picked on and be the way back to the Capitol, to clean, and dressed in a simple wooden case back to District 12 sent to. No longer here. Maybe it's better if he is already dead. He had no confidence in his victory. And should I end up not face the unpleasant task of killing him. <<

North America was destroyed. Wars and natural disasters have brought the country to case, but from this wreckage is Panem emerged. It is dominated by the Capitol that presented annually as a memorial relentless battles his people. Katniss Everdeen is a twenty-four tributes from the various Districts are provided. To protect her sister, she launches into a fight for their lives. A victory seems hopeless, but where enemies are also friends nearby. Even if you just know it too well against him. And so it happens that the arena is no longer just the playground of the tournament directors and the Capitol ... let

youth books different groups of readers will be stunned there are not many. At least not in recent times. The idea is usually with age, yet has managed to largely Suzanne Collins with her novel Deadly Games to unite the votes of their readership. The enthusiasm is great; a date for the blockbuster film version already exists. From twenty-third in March 2012 will be seen Katniss Everdeen in Austrian cinemas. But by that time and, ultimately, in addition, this youth book almost certainly still enjoy many a reader heart. A fact that is not further surprising, because the story of Katniss and Peeta, sent jointly from their district in an arena of the Capitol to be against twenty two other tributes, and, ultimately, to fight each other, touching, courageous and admirable at the same time. Suzanne Collins has been remarkably trouble here, not just a liquid, a coherent plot, but also some to present some very forward-warning idea. Your dystopia refers to the acting out of various favoritisierten especially by the youth trends like Chastingshows and the currently much-loved reality TV. Wealth, oppression and power are issues here, and lived in Panem, especially in the Capitol, beauty craze. Poverty meets prosperity, or: Katniss the center of power, which they hate, together with her childhood friend, Gale, and fear, as it has learned. There are (against the homeland) luxury in abundance. All things from the various strictly governed by the Capitol to be made and districts whose inhabitants mostly inhuman exists between Living conditions have to suffer.

And now suffering is a big issue in the first volume of the trilogy. A topic on which you should not handle light-hearted and that is suitable for older youth or adults. Because the resulting violence is described in various forms. Also psychological. The representations of various oppressions, the general misery of the population and soon thereafter fights are hard, but not sprawling. As a counterpart are the slowly developing feelings of two people. Peeta, who apparently knows what he wants, even if up to a point still remains obscure, and Katniss that one (on the surface) throughout can be described as an emotion rather poor girl. As a young breadwinner of a family she often shows up in cool, familiar only very few people. It is determined to knowing and persistent. The reader follows their development from the beginning and like the initial feeling, it do with a cool protagonist zuhaben, differs with the advancing number of pages and the ever more border profundity.

has also succeeded in building and action. Suzanne Collins told her story smoothly and all of a piece of Katniss view. The first-person perspective is well chosen, and emotional changes like descriptions between cold and warm details. Only one flaw is that can be mainly related to the lack of different explanations. Because basically the technology in the arena is difficult to understand. Hardly explains why, for example, a temperature crash comes into existence and how to manipulate an area of such size in this direction at all. Because the arena is great, too vast. It is understandable that many may not know Katniss, there remain certain (mainly technical) things without some kind of explanation unrealistic. One fact, however, that one - can forgive - love the essence itself.

About the audiobook

6 CD, 381 minutes
ISBN: 978-3-8373-0515-9
has € 24,95 [D]

keeping with the novel, the publishing group Oetinger published a wonderful, but abridged audio version. The spoken text of the Maria Koschny can convince her innocent, youthful voice throughout. Moreover, they provide an emotional depth in their pronunciation, even the knows very inspiring. Clearly understandable, but also vulnerable, the words are presented. Hardly surprising for a speaker, among other things, her voice as a voice actress Lindsay Lohan has borrowed, Jessica Biel, Mischa Barton and Christina Ricci.

Accompanied the various chapters alternating fits well with music and also the epic-sounding intro can be heard. The break between the individual variable here is well placed, voltage-poking. Sound and editing are attractive, as well as the content, which was indeed reduced, but with over three hundred and eighty minutes you can still convince completely. Price of this audio book is however not necessarily cheap to buy, but offers - for all audio book fans - a good, listenable alternative to the book that can be enjoyed even necessarily in that form.

Conclusion

The Tribute by Panem - Deadly Games is a read- radio play and very special event that has found good reason his supporters. Touching, hard and touching tells a compelling story writer Suzanne Collins, important, intelligent themes to the fore in every way and makes you want more. Young people aged fourteen (if mature enough, or with accompaniment of parents) and adults will not regret enjoy this reading!
